Taagepera and the Mulgi region offer a wide range of experiences – from canoeing on the River Õhne and cycling on forest roads to the Mulgi Experience Centre and the Holdre Castle with its piano museum. You can end the day with a lovely picnic in the castle park.
Canoe trip on the River Õhne – an experience in the heart of beautiful nature
The beautiful River Õhne meanders through Taagepera. In cooperation with Loodusturism OÜ, we offer the possibility to rent canoes in order to go on the river and enjoy a diverse nature experience.

Mulgi Experience Centre
Mulgi Experience Centre is located in Mulgi County, in the former Sooglemäe farm complex. Their exhibition and events open the door to the essence of the Mulgi people and Mulgi heritage culture. The centre is a Mulgi landmark and carrier of identity – it is at once an architectural attraction, a museum, an event venue and a hub for Mulgi County information and for the sale of products and services.
Holdre Castle
Just eight kilometres from Taagepera is Holdre Castle, known as the “little brother” of Taagepera Castle because they share the same architect. After recent restoration work, the richly articulated manor house has become home to the Estonian National Piano Museum.
The Holdre Castle visitor centre with the permanent exhibition of the piano museum was opened on 21.07.2022.
Today, the partially renovated castle is a true Art Nouveau gem which together with the piano museum forms a unified whole. The instruments in the museum’s collection give an overview of the history of Estonian piano building, and most of them are connected either with well-known Estonian piano makers or with prominent cultural figures (Keres, Naissoo, Kõpp and others).
The Piano Museum is open:
- In summer: Thu–Sat 11:00–18:00, Sun 11:00–16:00
- In winter: Fri–Sat 11:00–18:00, Sun 11:00–16:00
Admission to the Piano Museum is subject to a fee:
- Full ticket 8 €
- Group ticket from 15 people – 7 € per visitor
- Discount ticket 6 € (students and seniors)
By prior arrangement you can book a musical guided tour with the composer and museum founder Alo Põldmäe (tour duration 1–1.5 h).
Bicycle rental
We offer retro-style bicycles as well as fatbikes – wide-tyre bicycles suitable for safe riding on forest roads.
