Mulgi Experience Centre

Mulgi Experience Centre is located in Mulgi County in the former Sooglemäe farm complex. Their exhibition and events open the door to the essence of the Mulgi people and Mulgi heritage culture. The centre is a Mulgi landmark and bearer of identity – at once an architectural attraction, a museum, an events venue, and a hub for Mulgi County information and for the sale of products and services.

A visit to the centre includes getting to know the entire Sooglemäe farm complex. The buildings and outdoor areas can be visited and the exhibition explored either independently or with a guide. The tour starts from the manor house, i.e. the main building of the Mulgi Experience Centre, continues in the courtyard and in the exhibition building created in the former stable, and then proceeds through the grounds. The whole landscape is tied together by light-traffic paths along which there are several private activity spots and playgrounds for children.

Holdre Castle

Just eight kilometres from Taagepera lies Holdre Castle, known as the “little brother” of Taagepera Castle due to having the same architect. After recent renovation works, the richly articulated manor house has become home to the Estonian National Piano Museum.

The Holdre Castle visitor centre with the permanent exhibition of the Piano Museum was opened on 21.07.2022.

Today, the partially renovated castle is a true Art Nouveau gem which, together with the Piano Museum, forms a unified whole. The instruments in the museum’s collection provide an overview of the history of Estonian piano building, and most of the instruments are connected either with well-known Estonian piano makers or with notable cultural figures (Keres, Naissoo, Kõpp, etc.).

The Piano Museum is open:

  • In summer: Thu–Sat 11:00–18:00, Sun 11:00–16:00
  • In winter: Fri–Sat 11:00–18:00, Sun 11:00–16:00

Admission to the Piano Museum:

  • Full ticket 8 €
  • Group ticket (from 15 people) 7 € per visitor
  • Concession ticket 6 € (students and seniors)

With advance booking it is possible to order a musical guided tour with the composer and museum founder Alo Põldmäe (tour duration 1–1.5 h).
